We are once again the very proud sponsors of the National Kwik Cricket competition.
Aimed at both girls and boys, it is an under 11s competition that involves 130,000 kids across 40 counties and is the largest UK sports competition that exists for this age group. 12,000 schools took part in 2007 and this year the competition is also designed to fit with Key Stage 1 & 2 of the National Curriculum.
The competition starts at local District Finals and proceeds to County Finals. If the team is extremely good they can make it all the way to the Regional Finals and finally to the National Final Day which will be held at Grace Road in Leicester. ASDA Kwik Cricket is also open to kids who play cricket recreationally at local cricket clubs.
Kwik Cricket is the result of many years of detailed product development and research by the England and Wales Cricket Board in consultation with cricket coaches, Cricket Development Managers, education authorities, teachers and children.
ASDA Kwik Cricket is an inclusive sport and every player has an opportunity to 'do everything' (bowling, fielding and batting). It's ideal for kids to learn all about cricket because it simplifies the game to its most basic level and keeps kids interested throughout.
The emphasis is on watching and hitting the ball when batting, and there's no problem with anyone getting hurt as the ball is soft, therefore there is no need for protective equipment.
In practice any number of children can play, from 2 to 32. Simply adapt the game to your own particular environment in terms of time available and numbers playing.
Over the years, the equipment has been constantly improved to meet the requirements of today's children, teachers, coaches, young leaders, parents and other adults who will help our future young cricketers.
We are delighted to announce that for the first time there will be a National Girls competition this year.
ASDA Kwik Cricket is enjoyed not only by boys but also by tens of thousands of girls each year. It’s because of this that we thought it would be a good idea to have a special girls only national competition.
The Kwik Cricket Skill Awards scheme includes Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. The awards test children's catching, throwing, bowling and striking skills in a simple and easy-to-organise way.
They have also been designed to fit Key Stages 1 & 2 of the National Curriculum and for each award there is a simple instruction sheet enclosed.
Certificates and badges are available for each award and these can be ordered by using the forms supplied with the Kwik Cricket Information Pack.
For your copy of the Information Pack call the Kwik Cricket Action Line on 0800 214 314 or email schools@ecb.co.uk - supplying your name and full postal address.
You can also download the forms or the complete information pack from the ECB site.
The ASDA Kwik Cricket tournament once again proved to be a great success in Summer '07. Launched in Regent's Park on May 14th and concluding on July 13th at Headingly Carnegie Test Ground, almost 130,000 kids and 12,000 schools fought it out over two months for the right to be crowned ASDA national champion, in the largest year 6 schools competition in the UK.
There can only be one winner however, and a huge congratulations to Harlands Primary School from Sussex who made their way through district, county and regional finals, before winning at the Test Ground at Headingley.

If your school has not been contacted and you would like to receive more information download a pack from the ECB website or request one from the Kwik Cricket Action Line on 0800 214 314. Or you can email schools@ecb.co.uk - please supply your name and full postal address.
Kwik Cricket is also open to children's teams at local cricket clubs and information can be obtained through your Cricket Development Officer. July's final will be held at the Grace Road cricket ground in Leicester.
